Archive Searches
Archives make available numerous documents for consultation. These are mostly not available online.
I regularly visit the following archives:
- West Sussex Record Office
- Portsmouth History Centre
- Hampshire Record Office
- Gloucestershire Record Office
- Berkshire Record Office
On request I can also visit the National Archives at Kew and other record offices across the country.
Census Returns – this includes
- 1841 to 1911 (Enumerated every 10 years)
- 1921 Census – Released January 2022
- 1939 Register
Civil Registration, Births, Deaths & Marriages
- These are available from 1st July 1837
Parish Records
- The Parish Chest holds a multitude of records from the Churchwarden Accounts through to Poor Law Records.
Parish Registers
- Records of Baptism, Marriages and Burials can date back to 1538 in some parishes
Newspapers
- Searching the Newspapers may yield other interesting details about your ancestors
